What Alcorcón is like

Alcorcón grew fast in the 1970s and 80s and was then organized with planned extensions, leaving a town with two faces: a dense, well-connected core, and newer, roomier areas that depend more on the car.

The main advantage is the C5. Twenty minutes to Príncipe Pío is less than many people living inside the M-30 ring take to get to work, and the connection with lines 6 and 10 at the same station opens up most of the city.

Budget-wise, it's the step where many people move from sharing to living alone. That jump — from a room in the city to a whole flat outside it — is probably the biggest change in lifestyle the same salary can buy.

What works in its favor

A direct train to west-central Madrid

The C5 reaches Príncipe Pío in twenty minutes, with an immediate connection to Metro lines 6 and 10. No need to cross the city underground.

Flats with space

Developments from the 1980s and 90s left generous floor areas, with lifts and a parking space as standard rather than extras.

Excellent facilities

Sports centres, municipal pools and its own hospital. On a young budget, the savings aren't only in the rent.

What to know before moving

• The historic centre and the newer northern districts work like two towns. The station or Metro stop you live near changes your commute completely.
• If your life is in the east of Madrid, Alcorcón works against you: crossing the whole city cancels out the advantage of the train.
