What Aluche is like

Aluche was built almost in one go in the 1960s to house people arriving in Madrid, and that birth date explains nearly everything: repeated blocks, wide streets, services planned from the start and a Metro entrance every few hundred metres.

Today its advantage is pure logistics. From the interchange you head to the centre on line 5, north on line 10, and across the southwest by train and bus. For someone who studies at Carlos III University in Leganés and works in the centre, or who travels back and forth to Alcorcón, Aluche covers two lives with one rent.

Prices stay below the Madrid city average because the neighborhood has never been fashionable. That makes it one of the few places where you can still share a flat in Madrid city with a reasonable split between rent and everything else.

What works in its favor

A hub, not a stop

Metro, the C5 commuter line and intercity buses all meet here. Very few places in Madrid give you so many different ways out from one corner.

Casa de Campo next door

1,700 hectares one Metro stop away. It's the largest urban park in Spain, and from Aluche you get in without crossing the city.

Everything on your doorstep

Plenty of local shops, a market, a health centre and a sports centre. Aluche works like a town inside the city.

What to know before moving

• It's a neighborhood of 1960s apartment blocks with little architectural variety. If you're looking for character, you won't find it here.
• The streets around the interchange are busy and noisy early in the morning. A couple of streets further in makes a real difference.

It depends on where you need to be each week and how often. Aluche can be an excellent decision or an expensive mistake; your routine makes the difference.
